It seems like a scene taken straight from a movie but Cindy Burnett owner of 11-year old dog Turbo, feels if it was not for a pod of Dolphins, she might have lost her pet forever.
Last Sunday night, Cindy had left the gate of her home at Marco Islands, Florida, open by mistake and that is when Turbo got lost. She and her sons went out looking for him for hours, but weren’t able to find him.
“I searched and searched and called his name,” said Cindy.”I drove through this street at least five or six times.”
In another part of the neighborhood near the canal, neighbors got curious when a pod of dolphins kept splashing the water continuously for 15 hours. When someone finally went to investigate, they found Turbo stranded in the canal water.
“The lady here who got him out of the canal said, ‘The dolphins were with him,’” Cindy said
She is sure that if it was not for the dolphins it would have been hours before she would have located Turbo and safely taken him out of the water.
“If he had to tread water all night long, I know he wouldn’t have been able to,” she said.
Although the incident is rare, there are other reports of dolphins who have turned saviors. In 2007, surfer Todd Endris said bottlenose dolphins had formed a protective ring around him to save him. – Atula, Staff Writer
